What attracted you to venture capital and SoftBank?
I am an optimist at heart. I believe positive progress can be made by those who challenge the status quo. I am also a pragmatist by training. My experience as an operator at McKinsey and at startups left me with battle scars. SoftBank is a place where great optimism meets steady pragmatism. Together with founders, we indulge in hopeful hallucinations about the future, and work tirelessly to enable the builders of that future. It’s energizing to work alongside ambitious dreamers, and I'm grateful to play a small role in helping them succeed.

What differentiates SoftBank from other firms?
SoftBank makes no small plans. The firm thinks big: in time scale, in geographical reach, and in the level of ambition we seek to enable. We accept the risk of being early in exchange for the right to lead in every transformational trend. For the most daring founders, SoftBank is the ideal partner.

What are you currently focused on?
My primary focus is supporting SoftBank’s existing portfolio. I want to be the first call founders make — for a thought partner, a sounding board, or someone ready to roll up their sleeves. My operational background makes me a more hands-on investor than most, and I enjoy helping entrepreneurs navigate the realities of building a company.
I’m also spending a lot of time in cybersecurity, which is evolving incredibly fast. Whether mobile internet, remote work, AI, or quantum computing, each wave of technology innovation is creating new possibilities for hackers, and in turn, new needs for protection. Cybersecurity’s mission to keep the world safe is both admirable and energizing.

What do you look for in founders?
I look for founders who are relentless. Building a company is a very grueling and lonely journey — I felt some of this myself as a startup operator. Companies that can endure are ones willed into existence by tenacious founders who learn from their mistakes, pivot quickly, and refuse to give up.

What are you doing when you’re not working?
I’ve been practicing and competing in Muay Thai kickboxing for quite some time. What I love most is that it offers a rare chance to channel your full physical strength into something, like a punching bag. It’s become a great outlet to help me stay centered.
